MUSIC THERAPY ENROLLMENT
We are thrilled to serve members of the community! To read more about the music therapy enrollment process, please read below.
STEP 1: Free Initial Assessment
The best way to get started is to make a phone appointment to speak with one of our non-therapist educational specialists. The specialist conducts an in-person assessment & interview. If your child is high functioning, verbal and interactive with strangers, you may set up a free assessment instead. This takes 45-60 minutes depending on your child's verbal, interactive, and regulatory development. As you submit this request, please note on the form that you have a child with special needs, and whatever relevant information would like to share. This helps us choose the best Educational Specialist and allows their time with you to be especially effective. We may also suggest a therapeutic assessment.
Please visit the Evaluation page for more information, complete the Assessment Request Form, or just give us a call at (408) 445-2787. Please note these links direct to information on our partner site, The Music Place.
STEP 2: Two Trial sessions before registering
Before registering in our school, we suggest 2-session trial period during which the client is able to have two 35-minute sessions with a board certified music therapist. We will help you choose a Music Therapist or Special Needs Coach that is just right for you and your child. The first two trial sessions include 30 minutes with the client, 5 minutes parent debrief and 5-10 minutes of session notes.
STEP 3: Determine the next step together
Following these two introductory sessions, the Director obtains the recommendations of the therapist and meets by phone with the parents to discuss and/or determine the next steps. If family decides to more forward with Music Therapy at the recommendation of the therapist, they enroll in ongoing therapy sessions in one of more of the following: weekly private 35-minutes, or small group 45-minute sessions. In some case, a weekly 30-minute session may be recommended.
STEP 4: Assessment, Goals and Treatment Plan
After a minimum of 4 sessions, the therapist will prepare an initial treatment report. This report includes:
- An assessment of the client
- Goals and objectives for ongoing music therapy
The treatment report contains relevant insurance codes and goals in a treatment which can be submitted to the client's insurance company.
Re-evaluation reports are prepared every 6 months. These are used to evaluate client progress and are needed for the insurance company. These reports may also include some video clips of significant moments in the therapy process are made available to parents via a secure and confidential Internet site which is in accordance with H.I.P.P.A regulatory standards.
